IMBB website developed by Apogee

Apogee Information Systems has completed the redesign and development of the website for the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), one of the most prominent life science research institutions in Greece, with an outstanding record of scientific achievements, state of the art infrastructure and a broad range of research, innovation and educational activities. IMBB’s main mission is to pursue cutting-edge research and promote scientific excellence. IMBB is located in Heraklion, Crete.

The wide range of research activities of the Institute aims to understand the basic principles of the biological processes operating in living organisms. IMBB also hosts interdisciplinary research programs at the interface of biology with informatics, chemistry, physics, or medicine and is heavily involved in providing post-graduate students high-level education through joint graduate programs with the University of Crete. An additional standing mandate of IMBB is the exploitation and translation of acquired knowledge to tangible societal benefits, including the development of new technologies, innovative products and services.
IMBB-FORTH has developed strategic partnerships with the Department of Biology, the Medical School of the University of Crete and EU-LIFE.

Apogee Information Systems proceeded with a complete redesign of the website, fully tailored to the needs of the Institute. All data from the previous website were fully migrated to the new one, along with all links to the central FORTH institution for the migration of information (such as events, job postings, etc.) and its publication on the FORTH website. Following the same design framework, a sub-site for the IMBB Alumni Community was also developed. The Essence content management system was used, which is software developed exclusively by Apogee and offers unlimited scalability and future upgrade capabilities. It is a key factor in developing the website and the Institute, ensuring its reliable evolution in line with current trends. Both websites are managed through the same CMS, as Apogee Essence supports multi-site management. Finally, great emphasis was placed on performance, best practices, and SEO, so that the website, accessible from both desktop and mobile devices, achieves high-speed performance.

The result of Apogee’s implementation is a website that is updated daily and automatically with information such as news, job postings, events, and contact details. This supports the collection and distribution of all essential information among the website’s members and users while also reducing the time required for content management.
