Apogee Presents the Updated Website of the Department of Physics, University of Crete

Apogee Information Systems has completed redesigning and developing the website for the Department of Physics of the University of Crete, a department encompassing five major research fields. The department is internationally recognized for the high quality of research it conducts in all areas of modern physics and the excellent education and opportunities for international scientific recognition it offers to students.

Following the department's philosophy, Apogee prioritized developing an effective website by enhancing the navigation experience, ensuring users could easily access information through well-structured content and adherence to UX/UI standards, which optimized functionality and user engagement. The design was carefully tailored for every screen, recognizing the dominance of mobile internet usage and allowing the website to seamlessly adapt to various screen sizes and deliver a cohesive and functional experience across all devices. Additionally, Apogee implemented a modern and contemporary design, inspiring confidence and reflecting alignment with current trends, leaving users with a positive and lasting impression from their very first interaction. 

Apogee leveraged the open-source Drupal CMS to create an approachable and user-friendly platform for seamless content management and scalability. By choosing a vendor-free solution, the website ensures long-term flexibility, extensibility, and independence from proprietary systems, empowering users to adapt and grow the site as needed. The website lets visitors browse a wealth of information about the Department, its education programs, personnel, research news, and more.

The Department of Physics admitted its first undergraduate students in 1978 and its first permanent faculty members in 1980. Over the years, the Department has developed close and productive collaborations with the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH) while maintaining research partnerships with several other institutions in Europe and abroad. The Department offers accredited undergraduate programs, two postgraduate programs, five research fields, and opportunities for international scientific recognition.
